How Your Donations Helped Children and Families

The YMCA of Superior California provided financial assistance to hundreds of deserving children and families in the community. Your donation enables the YMCA to continue helping to make a difference to those in need.

“I’m a single parent of two elementary age daughters. Thanks to your generosity in helping with our membership, my two little girls’ lives have been enriched immensely. They have been involved in swimming lessons and karate. You should see the pride of accomplishment all over their faces. Thank you so much.”
—Wayne, a happy dad

“I am very much in love with horses and my mom was stressing about affording the bill for horse camp. My mom applied for a scholarship for me and I ended up with a 100% scholarship. I went to horse camp and had a marvelous time. I met new people and learned new things about horses. My mom was extremely glad and grateful for your great help. Now more than ever, I notice what an honorable association the YMCA is.”
—Veronica, age 11

“Thank you so very much for help with a family membership. I have two teenage boys that will benefit as well as myself. You are special.”
—Tammie, a grateful mom

“I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your recent donation of scholarships so that 20 children can experience day camp. The Department greatly appreciates your kindness and generosity to brighten the lives of children in our system of care. Your spirit of sharing is commendable and will live on for years in the memories of children.”
—Jim, Department of Heath & Human Services

“We are so thankful that you offer financial assistance for people that need a little bit of help. My sister and I are so happy that we were accepted and I am happy that I could do something for my little sister. With your programs, I can prevent her from being on the streets and hanging out with the wrong people. I love the fact that scholarships are available for struggling families.”
—Jemima, raising her younger sister on her own

“I remember the first time I called the YMCA. I was a young, single mother working three jobs and had no options for childcare. Most daycare costs were close to $800 to care for a child my daughter’s age. In order to support my family, my daughter was left with older family members, neighbors and friends. The older family members didn’t have the energy to chase after an active 18-month old. Consequently, she spent entire days in front of the television and had no social interaction.

I found the YMCA on the Internet and was referred to their Tots on Tenth childcare site. When I was told about financial assistance, I remember I cried in relief. Finally I could get the excellent childcare that my daughter deserved and get peace of mind that comes with knowing my child is well cared for.

My daughter has been at Tots on Tenth for five months now. Since she’s joined, her vocabulary has skyrocketed and she can speak whole sentences. She knows most of her colors and her shapes. But I think the most amazing development is her compassion. She is quick to comfort others and has blossomed into a lovely, well-adjusted child. None of this would have been possible without the YMCA’s financial assistance and we are eternally grateful.

Thank you for my peace of mind and for my happy little girl.”
—A grateful mom
