Staff has also completed training in child abuse prevention, CPR, First Aid, and water safety. Drivers are Class B licensed with passenger endorsement through the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Campers are assigned cabins by age group and gender. Campers do have an opportunity to request one cabin mate. Counselors are assigned eight campers and sleep in their assigned cabin with their campers. Some cabins will also be assigned a junior counselor who has successfully completed a two-week training program and a background check.

The YMCA Ragger and
Leathers Programs:
The YMCA Ragger and Leathers Programs are offered at Bear Valley
Camp. The program is designed for campers to examine their lives
and make conscious decisions to better themselves. The goal is to
have campers make personal challenges for self-improvement. Campers
who choose to participate in the Ragger program go through a
ceremony in which a triangle piece of cloth (a "rag") is tied around
their neck to serve as a reminder of their challenge.
The Ragger Program is open to all campers age 12
and up, and is open to people of all belief systems and religions.
All that is required is a desire for self-improvement.
The Leathers Programs has a similar goal of
self-improvement and is designed for campers 9-11 years old.
Campers go through a ceremony where they receive a leather symbol to
remind them of their personal challenge.
The YMCA offers your child more than just a safe, fun summer
experience. It's a place where children grow, meet new friends and
experience new things.
