Serving Children and Families in Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba Counties in California

MESSAGE FROM RONALD J. PAYNE, PRESIDENT & CEO

Last year I announced that the Yolo County and Feather River (formerly the Yuba-Sutter) YMCAs had merged with the YMCA of Greater Sacramento and created the YMCA of Superior California. On April 28, 2008, the Oroville YMCA was officially merged into the YMCA of Superior California.

The newly merged organization consists of more than 200 employees with an annual budget of nearly $5 million. Each of the YMCAs in Oroville, Woodland, Marysville/Yuba City and Sacramento will continue to operate under their existing names, programmatic oversight, boards of managers, and will retain the funds contributed by local donors and members to support their programs.

This vitalizing and thoughtfully planned endeavor was made possible through the diligent efforts of members of the Regional Board of Directors and local Service Area Boards. This new umbrella organization will save in operational costs and improve services to each community.

By expanding our service area, the YMCA will not only continue to provide existing value-based programs for infants through seniors, but will also offer new services that address current issues such as nutrition, child and family obesity, teen programs, as well as offer resident camping at Bear Valley Camp near Emigrant Gap, which is slated to re-open in July of 2008.

Fundraising efforts will be conducted in local service areas. Dollars raised in the service area will provide financial assistance and program support for program and scholarships in each community. Hundreds of children are participating in YMCA programs through your good will and generosity.

For information on programs, activities, fundraisers, and special events at the Feather River, Oroville, Sacramento, and Yolo YMCAs, please click on the appropriate link that is provided on this web page.

Volunteers, donors, friends, and staff continue to work together to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. With these many helping hands and hearts, our YMCA will maintain its status as a respected leader in all of the local communities.

Thanks for being part of the YMCA of Superior California. Your participation and involvement helps make a significant difference every day.

Our Role in the Community

By building partnerships with local schools, businesses and organizations, the YMCA is able to serve our community. The helps to develop positive values, morals and ethics. It is our belief that these are the building blocks for a strong individual, a strong family and ultimately a strong community.

Financial Assistance

It is the policy of the YMCA to provide financial assistance for any person who desires to participate, regardless of the ability to pay the standard fee. Those who are not able to pay the full fee may be awarded partial assistance based on their ability to pay and the YMCA's ability to fund the subsidy. Subsidies will be offered to the extent that funds are available. Application forms are available at the YMCA. Scholarship funds are made possible through the generous gifts of individuals and local businesses.

Our Mission Statement

We serve all ages and faiths in our community
to build spirit, mind and body

Our History

The YMCA of Superior California was formed in 1866 by returning Civil War veterans. The first YMCA building was at Fifth and J Streets. This facility was used from 1899 until construction began on a five-story building at the same site in 1913. The downtown YMCA relocated to twenty-first and W street in 1951 and became the Central Family YMCA. In 1959, the YMCA added the Northeast Family YMCA, located on Eastern Avenue. Currently, the YMCA is expanding into South Placer County, Elk Grove, and El Dorado County. The programs offered by the YMCA are far different today from 20, 40, and 100 years ago. What remains constant, though, is the Y's ability to adapt to society's changing needs and to keep developing programs which meet those needs.

We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.
